The notion of “design” has undergone substantial changes in the past few years. The new closeness to art, the turning away from the pure industrial product and to prototypical unica has sustainably changed the market and, as a consequence, influenced the distribution and broker channels of specially designed everyday objects. Exceptional design objects are nowadays much sought-after collectibles, shown in galleries, on special fairs and traded on special auction platforms.



 

The international design expert Franziska Kessler has been running a gallery since 2007 in Zurich, which caters to these new tendencies with carefully curated exhibitions. The focus of the presentations lies on so-called “design art” objects by renowned designers. Since the opening of her gallery, Franziska Kessler has shown exhibitions with works by Carlo Mollino, Christian Astuguevieille, Wendell Castle, Hannes Wettstein and Jacques Tati by Domeau & Pérès. She also runs a Zurich and Paris-based consulting design company with the approach to develop personalized concepts for each client. Franziska Kessler focuses on exquisite collectibles, vintage furniture, prototypes or so-called “one-offs”, products that the designers purposely create as unica or in limited numbers.

Galerie Ivo Kamm - Zürich - Switserland

In spring 2012 the couple Ivo and Franziska Kamm expanded with its gallery into the former premises of the Gallery Jamileh Weber. The showroom at Waldmannstrasse 6 is prominently situated in the heart of Zurich’s Old Town and in immediate proximity of the Kunsthaus Zürich as well as the Opera.

With its vital focus on South American contemporary art the Gallery Ivo Kamm partially closes the gap created by the move of the Daros Latinamerica Collection from Zurich to Rio. Another strong focus lies on Swiss art.

The generous halls of the gallery enable to show two solo exhibitions at a time. This way Swiss and Latin American art can be confronted without being part of a group exhibition, still allowing simultaneous insight into the culture and art of different continents.

J&P Fine Art

Fine Art was founded in 2003. The exhibition space is located in the heart of Zurich, midst in the financial district, not far from the largest museums.

 

The gallery concentrates its programme principally on Modern Masters of the 20th Century such as Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee and Alberto Giacometti. Exhibitions of renowned post war artists and Swiss Art of the 20th Century round up the programme.

 

A third field of predilection are Italian Masters such as Morandi, Marini, Fontana or Merz.

 

The gallery is very much involved in selling important single works to museums.

The gallery's artists challenge pre-conceived notions of nationality and cultural identity, creating an environment in which established norms become blurred and characterizations from seemingly contrasting cultures occupy the same visual space. This juxtaposition leads to a simultaneous renunciation and acceptance of the traditional and the contemporary, creating an environment that is in constant flux. Religion, politics, nationality and culture are treated as the foundation of identity, depicted and disseminated to varying degrees. Through painting, collage, sculpture, photography and installation work the artists convey the contestations of the contemporary political landscape.

Havana Galerie - Zürich - Switserland

Nach meiner mehrjährigen Unterrichtstätigkeit in Kuba und nach zwei Ausstellungen mit kubanischer Kunst, die ich in Zürich organisierte, eröffnete ich im März 1998 die Havana Galerie.

Dank der ausgezeichneten Ausbildung, welche die jungen Kubanerinnen und Kubaner geniessen, entstehen künstlerisch hochstehende und handwerklich professionelle Arbeiten, die sich in ihren Bildfindungen in einem internationalen zeitgenössischen Kontext bewegen.

Oft spielen in ihren Werken religiöse Themen eine Rolle, die jedoch für uns kaum als solche zu erkennen sind, werden doch Symbole, Mythen und Philosophien hauptsächlich aus den afrokubanischen Religionen geschöpft. Andere Künstler befassen sich mit der politischen Situation des Landes, dem Inseldasein und Alltagssituationen, gemischt mit Träumen, Aggressionen und Erotik.

Die Formensprachen die benutzt werden, sind so verschieden wie die Menschen die sie kreieren. Wie überall auf der Welt, wo wahrhaftige Künstler am Werk sind, und davon hat es in Kuba in der aktuellen Generation sehr viele. Zu sagen haben sie alle etwas, das ist nicht verpönt, es wird ausdrücklich gefordert.

So ist auch das internationale Interesse gegenüber dem kubanischen Kunstschaffen gross, wird doch damit in unserer Zeit ein echter kultureller Beitrag geliefert. Es ist mir ein Anliegen, einen Teil dieses Reichtums in meiner Galerie zu präsentieren.

Galerie Haas Zürich wurde 2003 gegründet. Sie repräsentiert internationale Kunst des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts.

Besondere Schwerpunkte sind:
Meister der Klassischen Moderne, wie Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, André Derain, Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Jean Arp. Künstler des Deutschen Expressionismus, der Neuen Sachlichkeit, des Konstruktivismus und des Bauhauses, u.a. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, George Grosz, Anton Räderscheidt, Oskar Schlemmer. Schweizer Meister, wie Ferdinand Hodler, Cuno Amiet, Félix Vallotton, Aimé Barraud, Louis Soutter. Bedeutende internationale Nachkriegskünstler, darunter Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Francis Picabia, Victor Vasarely und junge und jüngste Positionen in Malerei und Skulptur, wie beispielsweise Jonathan Meese, Daniel Richter, Tal R, Marianna Gartner, Leiko Ikemura, Heribert C. Ottersbach und  Nicole Bianchet.

In wechselnden Ausstellungen und Accrochagen werden Gemälde, Skulpturen und Arbeiten auf Papier vorgestellt. Galerie Haas Zürich kooperiert mit Galerien, Museen, Stiftungen, Institutionen und Privatsammlern in ganz Europa, den USA und Asien.

Galerie Bob Gysin - Zürich - Switserland

Galerie Bob Gysin, founded in 1971, has established itself in the Swiss art scene as a visionary place. It sees itself as a progressive gallery with the aim to represent current positions of mainly Swiss art. This includes both young and lesser known artists as well as internationally recognized names. The theme of "space" - whether as physical or mental space - is one component of the program. The aim of the gallery to look after their artists and to support them in the long term has helped for example Roman Signer, Adrian Schiess or Carmen Perrin to become known at a national and international level. The balance between painting, sculpture and photography will be maintained in the future. 'Position', an annual group show is presenting works of artists outside of the gallery's program. A small publication is accompanying each show in order to grant further insight into our exhibitions.

In the year 2005, while celebrating its fortieth anniversary, Galerie Gmurzynska opened its spacious new headquarters in Switzerland, relocating entirely from Germany. At the same time that it was launching its new flagship location at the famed Paradeplatz in the heart of Zurich, the gallery was also enlarging and updating its two already existing locations in Zug and fabled St. Moritz.

These strategic choices reflect the strengthened and renewed commitment of Galerie Gmurzynska to continue to present unique exhibitions which are both historically well researched and scientifically documented. It is the goal of the gallery to offer uniquely curated shows for its ever widening international public. It is also its goal to differentiate serving the cause of art history and research and mere dealings in art. The gallery continues to work with leading art historians as well as to collaborate with museums in shows and with the enlargement of their permanent collections.

Galerie Gmurzynska continues to represent the estates of some of the world's great artists, in some cases for several generations. Not only are we the leading gallery in the field of Russian Avantgarde, we also have a preeminent position worldwide in the sphere of Modern Art and Classic Contemporary which we believe are culturally and philosophically intertwined.

Die Galerie Ehrensperger befindet sich seit über 30 Jahren in direkter Nähe des Kunsthaus und Schauspielhaus im Herzen des Kulturgeschehens in Zürich.

Gallery Christinger De Mayo - Zürich - Switserland

The Gallery Christinger De Mayo was founded in September 2009.
We are mainly interested in artists who focus on issues of our generation, art and architecture, utopian and dystopian questions, find the poetic and unexpected in everyday life, rethink the mechanisms of art and perception.

Our two emphasis lies on Swiss and Latin American Artists. We aim to build  bridges between the two continents by cooperating with Latin American galleries such as A Gentil Carioca in Rio de Janeiro or Arroniz Contemporaneo in Mexico D.F. Last year we were proud to present a show at the gallery curated by Pablo Leon de la Barra and to offer our space to a young off-space in Guatemala Proyectos Ultravioleta. In exchanges like these we see the best possibility to promote a dialogue between two continents by means of contemporary art.

 My professional involvement with Contemporary and especially with Outsider Art & Art Brut began in 1973. Outsider Art is born of impulses, with no accordance to established art forms and without any consideration to current fashions. Creators of Outsider Art often also live on the fringes of society. Lacking preconditioning and schooling they are free from the burdens of academic art norms, which can be seen both in the content and form of their art. What comes out of this is a spontaneous power and originality, stemming from unconventional reflections and fantasies to their own lives. We meet their memories, we feel their pain, their fear, their sadness, their mourning and their joy. We live their fantasies through worlds inhabited by fascinating creatures and settings. Raw, this art hits straight at the heart and moves us deeply simply by contemplating it and letting it work on us.
