Phyllis Lucas Gallery - New York - USA

.
Our history dates back to 1928 when Sydney Lucas established Phyllis Lucas Gallery - Old Print Center in the heart of Manhattan.

Over the years we have become known for our extensive collection of antique, modern and contemporary works on paper. We have work from contemporary artists including photography, paintings and sculpture. We carry engravings, etchings and lithography, as well as restrikes and vintage posters. We have a large selection of classic New York scenes dating from the first half of the 19th century, as well as items representing most geographical regions.

During the 30's and 40's the Gallery was also a publishing house specializing in French etchings under the label "Paris Etching Society". Sydney Lucas contracted with French artists to publish editions of their work. After Sydney died in the mid 60's, his wife Phyllis carried on the business, building on the Gallery's collaboration with Salvador Dali. The Gallery was the first North American publisher of his lithographs and published 26 editions of his images. Dali was a frequent visitor to the Gallery and a friend of Phyllis Lucas, who died in 1995.

Michael Lucas, the son of Phyllis and Sydney has expanded the Gallery's selection of contemporary paintings and fine art photography. The Gallery is proud to feature local artists such as Howard Kolsin, a watercolorist who specializes in views of Turtle Bay. We also have a large selection of images of New York City that make unique and memorable souvenirs of a visit to Manhattan.
