Dickinson has become a world leader in the international art market with an unrivalled reputation for quality and discretion. As pioneers in the market for private treaty sales, we specialise in providing an alternative to buying and selling at auction, negotiating purchases and sales on a commission basis.
Established in 1993 by Simon Dickinson, formerly Senior Director of Christie's Old Master & British Pictures, and David Ker, a dealer in 18th and 19th Century British Pictures, the firm rapidly established itself as a leading London dealership for Old Master and British Paintings. In 1995 Dickinson branched into Impressionist and Modern Art under the direction of James Roundell, previously Head of Christie's Impressionist & Modern Department.
The next generation of Directors at Dickinson has broadened the company's profile. In London Emma Ward handles Impressionist and Modern Art and supervises Dickinson's international art fair schedule. Wentworth Beaumont specialises in Old Masters, as well as Sporting and Modern British Pictures. Together they also coordinate the Gallery's exhibition programme and events.
After eight years in the London gallery Hugo Nathan now runs Dickinson's New York Gallery, covering all fields of the company's activities in North and South America, liaising with American museums and overseeing the Gallery's exhibition schedule. Heinrich zu Hohenlohe heads the German division of Dickinson from Berlin, liaising with institutions and private collectors in all departments.
The strength and breadth of our team enables Dickinson to offer a wealth of knowledge and experience. With unparalleled access to the great collections of Britain, Europe and America, we provide a unique service for individuals and institutions wishing to acquire or sell artworks of exceptional quality. In addition, our consultants Lord Hindlip (Chairman of Christie's, 1986-2002), and Sir Timothy Clifford (Director of the National Galleries of Scotland, 1984-2006) further our market reach and academic standing. Dickinson has increased its strong international presence with Marie-Lucie Bisiaux consulting for the company in Paris, and Cornelia Pallavicini, formerly a Christie's Director, developing the firm's business connections in Switzerland and Italy.
