Richard Norton Gallery specializes in important American fine art of the early Twentieth Century. Founded in the year 2000, the gallery offers a diverse selection of Impressionist and Modern paintings drawings and sculpture. The gallery highlights the artwork of established and re-discovered artists of historical merit, and offers a broad aesthetic range of artwork including Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Realism, Abstraction, Cubism, Surrealism, and Expressionism, among others. There is an emphasis on artwork from the WPA era of the 1930s and early '40s, the American Machine Age, the Art Deco period, the American Abstract Artists group of New York and the American Scene painters of the Midwest and Great Lakes region. The gallery's selection of artwork includes a variety of themes, namely urban and rural landscapes, scenes of industry and foreign travel, mural studies, architectural and design renderings, still-life compositions, figure studies, portraiture and Modern abstractions.
A particular focus of the gallery is Chicago Modern art of the early Twentieth Century. Many of the Chicago Modern artists, active between 1900-1950, studied, taught and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as at the New Bauhaus and Institute of Design (ID). The gallery has exhibited some of the finest examples of artwork from this time period.
