The Gary Edwards Gallery opened in 1989 and has been exhibiting member of the Association of International Photographic Art Dealers (AIPAD) since 1991. Prior to that, the Director was a Foreign Service Officer dealing in cultural affairs at the Department of State. He is the author of International Guide to Photographers and their Works (G.K. Hall, 1988) and articles on early photography in various cultural periodicals.
The gallery specializes in vintage photography, particularly travel images of the 19th century. In addition to a wide range of 19th and 20th century images, the gallery holds extensive inventory in these specialized areas: early American hand-colored portraits; European between-the-wars modernism, Russian historical and art images, American vernacular surrealism, and space exploration. A limited number of contemporary photographers are also represented.
