A renowned advisor and dealer, Cristina Grajales has been a leader and a trendsetter in the design market since the inception of her gallery in 2001. Cristina Grajales Gallery cultivates emerging contemporary designers working in a variety of mediums such as furniture, lighting, ceramics and textile design. Grajales is also hailed as an expert in mid-century European and American design, and the gallery specializes in masterpieces of the twentieth-century including works by Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé, Serge Mouille, and Alexander Noll. Grajales has a breadth of expertise in acquisition, appraisal and education.
Education is fundamental to Grajales; she not only believes in the education of her clients, but that of the public as well. To accomplish this, Grajales launched a groundbreaking lecture series on “Design Legends” at the 92nd Street Y in 2001. Grajales participated in numerous design seminars and lectures including: the prestigious Sommet du Luxe et de la Creation in Paris, France speaking on “The Merging Trends in the Design Field” (2001), “New York Domestic Interiors” at the Museum of the City of New York (2007), “Tropical Modernism” (2007), and most recently the “The Changing Business of Design” (2010) in New York.
The gallery maintains a creative program of the exhibitions ranging from a retrospective of Philip and Kelvin Laverne’s artworks to a cotemporary solo show of Roy McMakin’s furniture design. Among Grajales’ notable curatorial contributions is Journey to Nouristan at Columbia University, which was a compelling exhibition of architectural photographs taken in Afghanistan in the 1960s. Cristina Grajales Gallery actively participates in the rotation of international design fairs including Design Miami, Design Miami Basel, Pavilion of Art and Design London, Pavillon des Arts et du Design in Paris and fairs in Dubai.
