Saint Mary's College Museum of Art - Moraga - California - U.S.A.

.
The Saint Mary's College Museum of Art (SMCMoA) is home to over 4,000 pieces of art, ranging from William Keith's early California landscapes to Andy Warhol's polaroids.

The Saint Mary's College Museum of Art was once the Hearst Art Gallery, built with the aid of a grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The Gallery opened in 1977, replacing a smaller William Keith Gallery. The College previously collected and distributed art for several decades, including many works by William Keith (1838-1911), a key figure in the history of California art. Brother Fidelis Cornelius Braeg, Saint Mary's College art professor and Keith biographer, established the original William Keith Collection and Gallery at Saint Mary's in 1934. After decades of going by the Hearst Art Gallery, a new name came with a large expansion. Increasing both exhibitions space and storage space, the Hearst Art Gallery became the Saint Mary's College Museum of Art in 2011. Come check out the Museum today!
Exhibitions and events are enhanced by a wonderful group of volunteers who assist with all aspects of museum operations and members whose generous support makes many programs and publications possible.

Memphis Brooks Museum of Art - Memphis - Tennessee - U.S.A.

.
In 1913, Bessie Vance Brooks donated $100,000 to the City of Memphis for the construction of a museum in honor of her late husband, Samuel Hamilton Brooks. The Brooks Memorial Art Gallery opened to the public in 1916. The Beaux Arts style building, inspired by the Morgan Library in New York City, was designed by James Gamble Rogers and constructed of Georgian marble. The museum was enlarged in 1955 to secure a gift of thirty-two objects from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, which was dependent upon sufficient gallery space to exhibit the artworks. To accommodate the continuing growth of the permanent collection, a further expansion was completed in 1973. In 1983, the institution’s name was changed to the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, and in 1989 the Brooks separated from the city becoming fully private, although the city retains ownership of the building and the bulk of the collection acquired up to that time. The final, award-winning addition, which replaced the 1955 wing, opened in 1989.

With less than 12% of its budget provided by government funding, the museum relies on the generosity of friends and supporters to meet operating costs and other expenses. There are many ways for individuals, foundations, and corporations to give support. In return, the museum thanks members and sponsors with special privileges, discounts, and naming opportunities.

Through our world class exhibitions and programs, the Brooks has become a center of cultural activity in Memphis. With the help of generous donors and supporters, the collection of nineteen paintings housed in a 8,200 square foot building in 1933 has grown to over 9,000 works of art in a 86,000 square foot building. The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art continues to fulfill the purpose of its founder, Bessie Vance Brooks, as a “repository, conservatory, and museum of art . . . for the enjoyment, inspiration, and instruction of our people.”

AMUM - Memphis - Tennessee - U.S.A.

.
When AMUM opened in 1981, it went by the name University Gallery. At that time our mission was to host temporary exhibitions. Over the years AMUM acquired the permanent collections it houses today—Egyptian antiquities, tradition-based African art and contemporary prints and drawings. In 1994 Memphis State University became the University of Memphis; The University Gallery Board voted to commemorate this change with one of it's own—a name change that reflects our transition to a collecting institution.

AMUM continues to host temporary exhibitions of contemporary art and culture alongside selections from our permanent collections. Since 1994, the visiting artist series has brought innovative contemporary projects to Memphis. Artists from the Mid-South, New York, Chicago, Great Britain, Germany, The Czech Republic, and Russia have designed site-based installations that include community and student participation. Egyptian antiquities and African art are exhibited in galleries dedicated to these collections.

Our collections of Egyptian antiquities and African art are exhibited in dedicated galleries and periodically updated with new themes. Students and scholars work with art, objects and archival materials from our diverse collections researching individual works and developing exhibitions. The 19th century to present-day print/drawing collection includes several strengths: the work of Samuel H. Crone, Carroll Cloar's lithographs, Épinal prints depicting Napoleon Bonaparte's life, Beth Van Hoesen's preparatory drawings and prints, and Andy Warhol's polaroids, prints and silk screens.
