Hales Gallery - London - United Kingdom

.
Hales Gallery opened in 1992 as an alternative space in Deptford, South London. From this unlikely venue, Paul Hedge and Paul Maslin successfully launched the careers of a number of emerging British artists at that time, including among many others, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Mike Nelson and Sarah Jones.

The venue's café became a social focal point for artists and created a good environment for the development and exchange of ideas. Both the gallery and café were regularly written about in the art press, national and international newspapers and attracted worldwide media attention.

In 1997 Hales became a commercial gallery and began to represent artists from international backgrounds including Tomoko Takahashi, Spencer Tunick, Hew Locke and Hans Op de Beeck. In 2004 Hales moved to its current new gallery space designed by architects HawkinsBrown in the Tea Building in London's East End.

Frith Street Gallery - London - United Kingdom

.
Originally occupying two adjacent townhouses in London’s Frith Street, the gallery was established in 1989 as a forum to present the best in contemporary drawing. Expanding into a wide range of media, Frith Street Gallery quickly became known for representing a distinctive group of artists working in film, photography, painting and sculpture. We currently work with 20 artists from Britain and abroad - a mixture of established and emerging figures.

The gallery moved to its current purpose built location on Golden Square, just a short distance from Frith Street, in 2007. We stage 5 solo exhibitions per year and each summer invite an independent curator to organise a group exhibition of non gallery artists.

Grosvenor Gallery - London - United Kingdom

.
Grosvenor Gallery was first established by the American sociologist and writer EricEstoric (1913-1993) who began to collect works of art when he came to live in England after the Second World War. Estorick’s love affair with the art world began while he was a student in New York University in the 1930s. In the college library, where Estorick spent long hours, he was exposed to one of the most important collections of 20th century art. It contained the works of almost every famous artist of the period – Braque, Arp, Brancusi, Gonzales, Klee, Leger, Matisse and more. This collection was to have a major influence on him.

Estorick moved to England in 1947 after his marriage to Salome Dessau. In the initial years, the couple developed a major collection of Italian art, which at one time was considered the most important collection of Italian art outside Italy. It was exhibited in major exhibitions including the one at the Tate Gallery in 1956. It was then that Estorick became a full time art dealer and went on to establish the Grosvenor Gallery in 1960, with its first premise on Davies Street. It was the largest and best equipped gallery in England at the time. The old Grosvenor Gallery that specialized in the Pre-Raphaelites had closed in 1906.

Around this time, several of the older galleries of London closed down. A number of young British artists associated with these galleries joined Estorick in his new venture. This move along with Estorick’s own remarkable collection of 20th century art led Grosvenor Gallery to prominence.

Grosvenor Gallery went on to exhibit some of the major European artists of the time – some for the first time in London such as Magritte, Picasso, Sironi, Chagall, Lissitzky and Archipenko. Grosvenor Gallery also represented an impressive group of young artists such as Michael Ayrton, Jack Smith, Prunella Clough, John Hoskin and Karl Weschke. Estorick also added the already well known artists F.N. Souza and Paul Feiler. It held important exhibitions of Italian art such as First Image in 1963 including the works by the painter Enrico Baj and sculptors Cascella and Silvestri, a major retrospective exhibition of paintings by Sironi.

Apart from Western European art, the Gallery was the principal outlet in the West for modern art from Eastern Europe. It also sold works by living Soviet artists, which was a major accomplishment for a Western gallery. Furthermore Estorick championed several South African artists notably Stern, Dumile and Kumalo.

The Gallery was located on Albermale street in the 1990s and then in 2000 it moved to Ryder Street. It was still dealing in Modern British and International Art while exhibiting primarily Modern and Contemporary Indian art.

The artist F.N. Souza has been a focus, his first show was The Human and the Divine Predicament (1964), followed by Black Art and Other Paintings (1966) followed by shows in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2005 at the Tate Britain in London and 2 shows in New York in 2005 and 2008.

In 2006, Grosvenor Gallery collaborated with Vadehra Art Gallery in New Delhi to form Grosvenor Vadehra. The purpose of this collaboration was to promote international art in India and Indian art in the United Kingdom. There were three inaugural exhibitions of Indian art at the time The Moderns Revisited, Inverting/Inventing Traditions and Here and Now: Young Voices from India, which were all well received in London. Since then the Gallery has has continued to have exhibitions of modern and contemporary Indian art. It also had exhibitions of international art in India including a Pablo Picasso exhibition in 2006 and a highly acclaimed exhibition of Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon along with Tyeb Mehta and F.N. Souza in 2007.

The gallery currently also represents two of the finest living painters in the UK, Mark Shields and Victor Newsome.

Going forward Grosvenor Gallery will continue to focus on showing the best Modern and Contemporary Art from India and Britain and as well as some masterpieces.

This is your life.
Do what you love, and do it often.
If you don't like something, change it.
If you don't have enough time, stop watching TV.
Start doing things you love.
All emotions are beautiful.
Open your mind, arms and heart to new things
and people, we are united in our differences.
Ask the next person you see what their passion is
and share your inspiring dream with them.
Travel often.
Getting lost will help you find yourself.
Some opportunities only come once, seize them.
Life is about the people you meet
and the things you create with them.
Life is short.
Live your dream.

Louisa Guinness Gallery - London - United Kingdom

.
Work with today’s leading sculptors and painters to make jewellery. Collect and deal in past artist’s works focusing especially on jewellery.

The Gallery opened in May 2003 with an exhibition of Donald Judd Furniture. This was followed by a Ron Arad exhibition which confirmed interest in a new and developing market. The world of design meets function meets furniture meets art; Louisa Guinness identified a growing interest in this and decided to concentrate on inviting artists better known for their skills in the world of painting or sculpture to try their hand at inventing functional objects. Then followed the ‘Minimalist’ exhibition and ‘Garden furniture’ with works by Yves Klein, Rachel Whiteread, Richard Wentworth, Sol LeWitt. For further details see individual pages on exhibitions or artists.

This trend developed further. Having discovered that Picasso, Braque and Calder, to name but a few of the old masters, had made jewellery; Louisa Guinness decided to explore this angle also. She approached Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley and Sam Taylor Wood and worked with them to realise some wonderful new pieces to bring the exhibition of ‘Past and Present – Jewellery by 20th Century artists’ up to date. This was the beginning of a new era.

Each new work is published in a small edition to the highest standard. Most are handmade in London’s famous Hatton Garden district or the artist’s studio. Handmade leather boxes, some with Perspex lids have been made in order to display the jewellery. The ethos behind the jewellery is that it serves as small sculpture whist it is not being worn, it can sit on a coffee table or in a dressing room as a work of art.

Louisa Guinness uncovered a new market, rich with ancient gems in the homes of some lucky collectors and occasionally appearing at auction and decided this was an area she intended to focus on. Her husband, Ben Brown has taken over dealing with Ron Arad and Louisa Guinness spends her time talking to artists and jewellery makers and creating new works of jewellery to add to her stable. She has established herself as the leading dealer in artist’s jewellery in the world.

Guillochon Gallery - London - United Kingdom

.
Guillochon Gallery focuses on work by artists who combine traditional skills with contemporary concerns. We support work that is visually pleasing while retaining a degree of intellectual integrity.

Instead of adhering purely to the established gallery model, the current climate has allowed Guillochon Gallery to adopt a slightly different approach to exhibiting. The gallery combines a permanent space while also making use of the plethora of unoccupied properties in London, unlocking opportunities to obtain unusual and exciting exhibition venues and bringing contemporary art further to the doorstep of the general public.

In another move away from the established gallery model, the gallery does not represent artists, instead choosing to exhibit the work of artists.

FOLD Gallery - London - United Kingdom

.
FOLD Gallery London was established in 2008 in an old warehouse in Hackney’s London Fields.

Originally run as a crossover between a commercial gallery and a project space, FOLD specialised in producing group shows. These gave the opportunity for UK based and international artists from emerging to mid-career practices to be brought together by strongly themed shows. The principle goal behind the theme based group exhibitions was to expand the reach of the gallery by constantly bringing in new audiences.

Now re-located in the heart of Clerkenwell, FOLD Gallery continues to push its reach to new audiences. Although now the programme is certainly more commercially viable, the focus still remains on strongly themed shows. Now punctuated with significant solo shows, the gallery programme continues to strive to present all of the artists work within context, to give the viewer the best opportunity to gain understanding of the intentions of the artist, whilst viewing the work displayed to the highest possible standards.

England & Co - London - United Kingdom

.
England & Co was founded in late 1987, holding its first exhibition in April 1988. In 1999, the gallery expanded and moved within Notting Hill to a specifically designed gallery space on Westbourne Grove, London. In early 2012, the gallery relocated to Great Portland Street in central London.

Over the past two decades, England & Co has established an independent and individual identity that reflects the eclectic, historically aware, research-based curatorial approach of gallery director/curator Jane England. There is no specific stylistic or generational specialization and from the beginning, the gallery programme has alternated between contemporary art and explorations of relatively recent art history.

The gallery represents a number of emerging and established contemporary artists; advises and acts for the estates of artists and collectors; and also holds a regularly changing stock of 20th and 21st century art. From the beginning, the gallery has regularly published exhibition catalogues, and recently has begun to publish editions of prints and multiples by contemporary artists.

Solo exhibitions of contemporary artists from Britain and abroad have been augmented by themed survey exhibitions such as The Map Is Not the Territory series that place contemporary work in a specific context and mix well-known with up-and-coming artists. Gallery director Jane England is also committed to researching and curating retrospective exhibitions that reappraise artists from the British and European avant-garde of the 1930s through to the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s: these have included the abstract pioneer Paule Vézelay; the action-painter William Green; founder Situationist Ralph Rumney; the kinetic sculptor Liliane Lijn; and a significant figure in British performance art and installation, Stuart Brisley. More recent art history - in 1980s London - was explored in The Neo Naturists.

Durlacher Fine Art - London - United Kingdom

.
Durlacher Fine Art is a London based art consultancy specialising in contemporary Asian art. DFA was established by Natasha Durlacher in 1998 having spent seven years prior to that working in the art world in Hong Kong. It was there that she gained her experience and wealth of knowledge of Asian Contemporary Art and her extensive travels throughout South East Asia brought her into contact with many young innovative artists who have since made their mark on the international art scene. It was on a trip to Vietnam in 1992, that the raw and undiscovered talent of the Vietnamese artists particularly struck Durlacher. Many trips to the North and South followed, researching the history of Vietnamese art and building strong links with many of the Vietnamese artists who have since received critical acclaim.

Durlacher Fine Art is now one of the leading dealers of contemporary Vietnamese art representing artists such as Le Thiet Cuong, Dang Xuan Hoa, Nguyen Trung and Nguyen Thanh Binh to name a few.

Durlacher Fine Art incorporated Durlacher Photography into its portfolio focusing on the promotion of Contemporary British Photographery. The gallery aims to exhibit fine works by emerging local photographers with a stong sense of artistic identity and a cohesive body of work. Durlacher Photography represents Tim Hall and Martyn Colbeck.

Douwes Fine Art - London - United Kingdom

.
The Douwes tradition started with a restoration workshop as early as the 1760's, because already in the fashionable Amsterdam of the second half of the 18th century, the Douwes forebears tried to meet the desire of those that wanted the beautiful ceilings of their imposing canal houses painted and restored.

These days, the firm still belongs to the same family, and has been passed on from father to son for many generations. The present owners of Douwes Fine Art are in effect the seventh and eights generation. However, according to the official regulartions of the St. Lucas guild, abolished shortly after in 1808, they prefer to start counting from their entry as an independently registered business on September 5th, 1805. Now in its sixth generation of art dealing and restoring since then, this prestigious art gallery is the oldest of its kind in The Netherlands and in Europe.

Crypt Gallery - London - United Kingdom

.
The Crypt of St Pancras Parish Church was designed and used for coffin burials from 1822, when the Church was opened, to 1854, when the crypts of all London churches were closed to burials. Crypt burial was seen as a slightly better alternative to the overcrowded village burial grounds for those who could afford it...and a useful revenue for the churches.

The first burial was that of Ellen Strachey, aged 12, on 6th June 1822. The last burial was that of Harry Pearce, aged 71, on 27th October 1854. Burials here were discontinued by Order in Council dated 21st May 1855.
In both World Wars the Crypt was used as an air raid shelter.
This peaceful place is still the final home of 557 people. We respect their presence.

In 2002 the Crypt at St Pancras Church became a gallery space where the imagination, thoughts and emotions of 21st century artists are shared with visitors from around the world. Now this popular venue hosts a year-round programme of art exhibitions. As a church we are pleased to include art that provokes and questions, as well as art designed for contemplation, because all form an important part of our common humanity. Throughout history the Church has encouraged and supported the arts and artists. Long may this continue.

The Crypt provides an intensely atmospheric backdrop to promote the work of a wide variety of artists, kept under the watchful eye of the caryatids. Details of current, forthcoming and previous exhibitions are listed on this website.
If you are interested in putting on an exhibition in The Crypt, please contact Claire Pinney, Director of the Crypt Gallery at St Pancras Church.

Campbell Works - London - United Kingdom

.
Campbell Works is the creative partnership of artists Neil Taylor & Harriet Murray. Their studio practice extends to running an artist led gallery space, initiating and curating art projects, and undertaking a wide range of public realm interventions.

By developing the collaboration and curation of new ventures with artists working across a wide spectrum of disciplines, Campbell Works acts as a meeting point for ideas and aims to explore contextual relationships between art, spaces and people.

Campbell Works collaborate with artists and organizations internationally, as well as with a diverse range of professionals, commissioning bodies, the public, schools, and local authorities in the UK.

Taylor and Murray have developed a succession of new projects, installations, and exhibitions weaving a route through the commercial, experimental, and public realms.

Campbell Works can best be characterised by its openness-to artists and their ideas, to the public and to the philosophy that drives the programing. Taylor and Murray see the development of Campbell Works as an extension of their artistic practice, allowing each project to become a collaborative work-in-progress, and a way to rigourously test ideas, build networks, and showcase new commissions. Campbell Works creates an environment for experimentation and innovation, for support and discussion, where ideas and the creative process are as important as the outcome.

The curatorial projects consist largely of new work that is created through a dialogue between Murray, Taylor, and any other artists and curators involved. This creates a context for peer critique within a gallery framework and a space for creating new dialogues between the artists and their audience.

Another key element of Campbell Works growth has been to engage with new audiences though participatory art projects. Scince 2002, Taylor and Murray have initiated projects both at grass roots level and within ambitious public realm contexts. The success of recent projects underlines the value of Campbell Works approach, as an incubator for new work and for discussions around artistic practice and audience engagement.

We provide useful guidance and advice to artists new to the London art market and offer a number of exhibition options to suit your requirements and aims:
•The popular series of group exhibitions called “Art in Mind” is an opportunity for artists to rent a 3, 6 or 9 metre space in the gallery as part of a collective exhibition. This option works well as an introduction to the exhibition experience and is a comprehensive way of presenting a limited body of work alongside a number of other artists. For more information, please visit the “Art in Mind” section on our website.
•Due to a large number of returning exhibitors, we are launching a new service offering a more focused and long-term engagement with the artist. We are extending our promotional service to offer “representation” to selected artists who would prefer to fully benefit from our commitment in providing a continued professional support system. This option consists of being included in two Art in Mind exhibitions per year as well as being listed as an artist on the gallery website. Our popular website offers a continued presence online to promote your practice to a worldwide audience and offering the opportunity for collectors to view and buy your work throughout the year.
•If you are looking for an exclusive and impactful exhibition presence, we can also assist you with a solo exhibition, an important event in your artistic career. You will be able to showcase a large body of work in a professional and established gallery setting - a variety and abundance of work can often confirm the quality of the practice to buyers and viewers, and proving the consistency of the artist. Our galleries can be hired for your solo exhibition on a weekly basis, with the price decreasing for subsequent weeks.

Regardless of which option is best suited for you, our professional staff are here to assist you by offering a unique exhibition experience.

With over 5 years’ experience, our dedicated team take the pressure out of organising your exhibition and manage everything for you to create the perfect occasion for a successful and stress-free exhibition!

Bleu Gallery - London - United Kingdom

.
Art is the essence of life. Without the demiurge, the creative impulse, we could not invent, evolve or transcend. Without aesthetic contemplation, we could not know beauty. We could never know light from darkness, truth from lies, hate from love.

Through history, the visual arts have been humanity's most elemental form of expression. Images have served as our magic and medicine, a religion and refuge, a universal language. The arts map our souls, they record our dreams. They mirror life, while offering new ways in which to view it.

Blue Gallery was inspired by reverence for that power. It was conceived as a sanctuary for the art experience; the imperative, eternal, yet eternally new communion between artist, art and audience. Today the gallery remains dedicated to the idea that the vital, transformative power of the visual arts remain accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstance or academic background.

Blue Gallery loves art.
Blue Gallery exists for art's sake.
Blue Gallery is always seeking new art.
Blue Gallery seeks artists who have demonstrated an ability to produce exceptional work over the course of a career.
Blue Gallery seeks artists who also have the interpersonal skills necessary to work with other creative individuals, and the professionalism needed to succeed in a highly competitive field.

Blairman & Sons Ltd - London - United Kingdom

.
H. Blairman & Sons Ltd, established in 1884, is now directed by Martin Levy, representing the fourth generation of this family-run business.

Building on its established reputation as a dealer in eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century furniture, Blairman's has developed, over the past thirty years or so, a strong interest in beautifully designed, documented furniture and works of art from the later nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

In the 1930s Martin Levy's grandfather, Philip Blairman (1896-1972), pioneered an appreciation of the English Regency period, and this too is an area in which Blairman's continues to specialise.

Joanna Bird - London - United Kingdom

.
Joanna Bird is an international art dealer and consultant with over thirty years’ experience in the art world as a practitioner, agent, gallerist and commentator. She is much in demand as a curator and consultant, and works with the most exciting talents among contemporary ceramicists worldwide.

For her many high profile clients, Joanna acts as an agent for the purchase and commissioning of the best of contemporary art. She specialises in the site-specific display of craft ceramics and glassware in particular architectural settings, frequently using works of the masters to wordlessly illustrate the creative roots and context of more recent pieces.

Intellectually, Joanna’s main interest and area of expertise is in the Studio Pottery movement, which reclaimed pottery as an individual art from the jaws of mass production and industrialisation. The triumvirate that emerged from the meeting between the British ceramicist Bernard Leach and his Japanese counterparts Shoji Hamada and Soetsu Yanagi – almost exactly a hundred years ago – is a particular source of fascination and inspiration for her.

Joanna studied sociology and set up a Cordon Bleu restaurant in Dublin before finding her true métier in the art world. In the 1970s she studied ceramics for three years with Michael Cardew, Bernard Leach’s best-known pupil, and was a working potter herself for eight years. Since the late 1980s Joanna has been selling ceramics, initially from a Bond Street gallery at which she often exhibited jointly with her husband, the art dealer Bunny Bird. Her home in Chiswick, West London now doubles as a gallery and as the base for her international consultancy. Joanna regards pots as a delight in that they ‘give’ something to you, through the maker’s inspiration and are a potential investment.

At present Joanna is working with the Devonshires to develop a new gallery for ceramics at Chatsworth house, Derbyshire – the most recent in a series of commissions undertaken for the Duke of Devonshire. Over the last fifteen years she has developed an extensive exhibition programme, and has been a consistent presence at international art fairs, including ‘SOFA’, New York, and ‘COLLECT’ in London.
