Peter Blum Gallery - New York - USA

Peter Blum has collaborated with a wide range of artists both as a gallerist and publisher since he began his career in 1971 at Galerie Beyeler in Basel, Switzerland. In 1980, after moving to New York, he founded Peter Blum Edition, where he was among the first print publishers to work with a new generation of European and American artists. Peter Blum Edition has since published important editions by Louise Bourgeois, James Turrell, Barbara Kruger, John Baldessari, Brice Marden, Eric Fischl, Josef-Felix Müller, Luc Tuymans, Sherrie Levine, Alex Katz, Tacita Dean, and Alfredo Jaar, among many others.

The Peter Blum Edition Archive (1980-1994) was the subject of the exhibition Singular Multiples at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 2006, the largest exhibition ever in North America devoted entirely to printmaking. In 2007, a selection of the Peter Blum Edition portfolios formed the exhibition Scenes and Sequences at the Aargauer Kunsthaus in Aarau, Switzerland.

Established in the summer of 2005 by German curator and art critic Anke Kempkes, BROADWAY 1602 was first located on Broadway between 28th and 29th Street in New York City, situated on the top floor of a 16-flight 1920’s building in the Flat Iron District.
In 2010 the gallery moved to the 3rd Floor of the “Baudouine Building” from the 1860s at 1181 Broadway between 27th and 28th Street.
The gallery represents an international pool of emerging artists - from New York, Warsaw, Berlin and London, who work in the media of performance, painting, photography, film, video art and installation. The activities of the gallery include external curated projects, co-operations with other galleries and institutions and publication activities since its creation.
Since 2006 - as an extension of the historical spectrum - the gallery represents the 1970s archive of New York-based French photographer and filmmaker Babette Mangolte. As an outcome of gallery founder Anke Kempkes’ curatorial background, the gallery represents the estate of Polish sculptor Alina Szapocznikow since 2007 and the estate of Belgium Pop Artists Evelyne Axell since 2009. As part of the focus on women artists from the 60s and 70s the gallery started to represent the work of Croatian conceptual artist Sanja Ivekovic.
In 2010 the gallery started to work with the estate of first generation Bauhaus artist Xanti Schawinsky, a project initiated in collaboration with independent curator Larry List.
ANKE KEMPKES previously worked as an art critic for international art magazines and publications, and as independent curator in Berlin. The Gallery was also agent for the Estate of Thomas Eakins, placing significant paintings in major museums from New York to Honolulu. In recent years we have sold a number of significant Eakins works, including one of his largest paintings: A STREET SCENE, SEVILLE. For the past half century Babcock Galleries has also been the leading source for works by Marsden Hartley. More than fifty museums, including the National Gallery of Art, the National Museum of American Art, and the Huntington Museum and Library have acquired Babcock Hartleys. The George Adams Gallery was originally established as the Allan Frumkin Gallery, Chicago, in 1952. The Allan Frumkin Gallery, New York opened in 1959 and George Adams began his association with the gallery in 1980. In 1988 the name was changed to the Frumkin/Adams Gallery, which it remained until Allan Frumkin's retirement in 1995, when the name was changed once more to the George Adams Gallery. In the summer of 2005, after 46 years on 57th Street, the gallery relocated to West 26th Street in Chelsea.
The George Adams Gallery represents and regularly exhibits the work of 20 artists ranging from very established to emerging. Several - Jack Beal, Roy DeForest and Peter Saul - have been with the gallery since the early 1960s, while others, such as Kako Ueda, became associated with the gallery more recently.
