Osborne Samuel Ltd is a partnership between Peter Osborne and Gordon Samuel. The company was formed in 2004 after the merger of Peter Osborne’s company Berkeley Square Gallery and the adjacent gallery, Samuel & Co. directed by Gordon Samuel.

The partnership continues the specialities of both businesses, the partners having collaborated on a number of important exhibitions for many years before the merger. The partners have more than fifty years experience between them. Peter Osborne was the Director of the Harlech Fine Art Group and founded Berkeley Square Gallery in 1988, which he acquired in 1994. Gordon Samuel was Director at Redfern Gallery and Mercury Gallery before forming Samuel & Co.

Osborne Samuel operates from premises at 23a Bruton Street, in the heart of London’s Mayfair district, between Bond Street and Berkeley Square. Osborne Samuel Gallery is one of London’s leading specialists in Modern British painting and Sculpture and has a high reputation for the quality of its exhibitions and publications. In sculpture there is a strong emphasis in the work of Henry Moore and Lynn Chadwick; and in paintings there are works by Auerbach, Aitchison, Burra, the post war abstraction of Pasmore, Heath, Frost, Hilton, Lanyon, Blackburn; the neo-romanticism of Sutherland, Vaughan, Craxton and Clough to name but a few. Osborne Samuel work closely with the estates of Edward Wadsworth, Lynn Chadwick, Peter Kinley and Stanley William Hayter. The gallery has a substantial inventory of masterprints by the major artists of the last century and specialises in the graphic work of Picasso, Moore and Miro. In addition, Osborne Samuel is the leading international dealer in the colour linocuts of the artists of The Grosvenor School of Modern Art with prints by Sybil Andrews, Claude Flight, Cyril Power and Lill Tschudi. The gallery also is one of the leading dealers in Modern & Contemporary British Prints specialising in Nash, Nevinson and Wadsworth

Osborne Samuel has a substantial collection of prints from the 1960s and 1970s including works by Kitaj, Pasmore, Allen Jones, Tilson, Piper, Hepworth, Moore, Herman, Nolan, Sutherland, Chadwick, Auerbach, Aitchison and Armitage.

More recently the gallery has started dealing in Photography with works by Nan Goldin, Andreas Gursky, Shirin Neshat, Tracy Moffatt, Marc Quinn, Tracey Snelling and the Argentine artist Graciela Sacco.

Contemporary artists such as Sean Henry and Sophie Ryder are represented by Osborne Samuel and we organise exhibitions of their work internationally.

Osborne Samuel exhibits at many of the world’s best art fairs and is well known for its annual visits to the fair in Palm Beach, USA each January and the Print Fair held in New York’s 7th Regiment Armory building on Park Avenue each November. At home we are exhibitors at The London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy of Arts every April, the prestigious Masterpiece Fair, London in June and 20/21 British Art Fair each September .

The gallery has made a significant investment in contemporary Indian art and will show the most important artists as well as the best of the next generation. Osborne Samuel represent the estate of Avinash Chandra.

Within its areas of expertise the gallery provides written valuations on request, acts for artists’ estates and provides free advice on acquisition and disposal of works of art.
Osborne Samuel is a member of the IFPDA (International Fine Print Dealers Association) and also of a member of SLAD (Society of London Art Dealers); both partners have served on the Executive Committee of SLAD and Peter Osborne served as Deputy Chairman of the society for a number of years.
