The Belgian Art Research Institute

The Belgian Art Research Institute was founded by its director Olivier Bertrand in 1999. Ever since then our institution is committed to the scientific research of 19th and 20th century art in Belgium. With our findings, followed by publications and exhibitions, we have contributed to the rising international interest in Belgian artists like Theo van Rysselberghe and Rik Wouters.
Our international team of independent experts is specialised in consultation of primary and secondary sources, evaluation of private and public, national and international archive holdings. In the course of the years we have gathered original documents and established one of the largest private archives on leading Belgian artists. Enriched by donations and purchases from private collections our archive represents therefore a unique source of unpublished documents and photographs.
Our profound interest lies in the continuous exploration of Belgian Art. Therefore, the Belgian Art Research Institute is preparing following publications:
La Galerie Giroux
Théo Van Rysselberghe
Ivan Pokitonow
Rik Wouters, Works on paper and sculptures
Juliette and Rodolphe Wytsman
Please let us know whether you have any artworks or relevant original documents on the artists mentioned below so that we can include them in our upcoming catalogues raisonnés.
